National CAPACD Chinatown Roundtable

  • JW Marriott 17 East Monroe Street Chicago, IL, 60603 United States (map)

Come early to Chicago for this exciting pre-Convention programming! Leaders from Chinatowns across the country will share their work to bolster local neighborhood economies, organize, and fight the pressures of displacement. The afternoon will feature case studies of innovations and strategies that build community power, as well as roundtable discussions focused on specific themes that are most relevant to Chinatowns today. This event is open to all Building CAPACD Convention attendees.

Roundtable one: Creative Placemaking—Asian American communities have had an awakening to regenerate and reclaim their place, stories, narratives, and communities through arts and culture strategies. Join this conversation with Chinese Cultural Center SF, Edge on the Square, Chinatown Cultural Plan, and Asian Community Development Corporation.

Roundtable two: Local economies - This session will bring together organizations to share and discuss economic development strategies that center and support neighborhood-specific, local economies in densely populated urban communities. Join the discussion with Chinatown Community Development Center, Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation, Coalition for A Better Chinese American Community, and Welcome to Chinatown.

Roundtable three: Community Ownership - In response to intensifying gentrification and displacement pressures, Chinatown leaders are organizing around ownership and solidarity economy models. Join this conversation featuring LA Chinatown Community Land Trust, Boston Chinatown CLT, NYC Chinatown CLT, and Oakland Bloom.
